Dear Hockey Family,
As you are probably aware by now, Junior A hockey has come to Traverse City! The North American Hockey League's Traverse City North Stars are celebrating our inaugural season in 2005-06, and we are currently seeking host families for our players.
In many respects, becoming a Traverse City North Stars host family is like hosting a foreign exchange student, but without the potential language barrier. It is an enriching experience for all involved, as local families help young men develop as athletes, students, and citizens. A monthly stipend of $250 is offered to host families to help defray additional food costs incurred. Players will require safe, clean housing from mid-August until the end of the season, which could last until the first week of May at the latest.
North Stars players are 16-20 years old, and are expected to be gentlemen who contribute to the community in addition to their responsibilities with the team, school and host families. In short, we are a family-oriented organization with a strong emphasis on discipline and citizenship and are looking for similar environments in 10-12 local households.
Join us as we build a familycentric community pillar that combines the best of on-ice performances with conduct and contribution off the ice that helps strengthen our local community. Potential host families – or 'billets' as they are called – are encouraged to complete the enclosed application form and mail it to the North Stars office at Centre ICE in Traverse City.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us at the numbers listed below. We'd love to have you on board as we kick off what will undoubtedly become a wildly successful cultural staple of the region. Thank you for your time and for your interest in Traverse City North Stars hockey.
Sincerely,
